Retrospective Alumni Day in the jubilee year 2004

The Alumni Day on 3 July, 2004 was a premiere. In its 175th birthday, the University of Stuttgart celebrated its first interdisciplinary Alumni Day. Graduates as well as friends and sponsors of all faculties met at their alma mater to take part in a miscellaneous program.

Since then every year alumni have had the chance to meet former fellow students at Science Day in the UNI-Pavillion.

Visitors from European countries as well as from Japan, China, Benin and the USA came to the Alumni Day in the jubilee year 2004. The combination of Alumni Day and open day gave alumni the opportunity to cast a glance at lecture halls and laboratories of their former faculties. On the whole campus, scientists provided information about their main research areas and their current projects.

The Alumni Day was ceremonially opened with a welcoming event by former Rector Dieter Fritsch on Campus Vaihingen. The alumni tours through the new building of the Faculty for Computer Science were especially well received since they gave visitors exciting insights into the daily life of a scientist in an institute which is equipped with the latest technique. At noon the summer festival with music, dance and culinary delights from all over the world attracted the visitors to the campus' festival ground. In their annual meeting the Association of Friends of the University of Stuttgart awarded the "Prize of Friends" to young academics. Afterwards prize winners and alumni, friends and sponsors and their family met at the reception in the Rector's Office.

The highlight of the evening program was the public panel discussion "Ways into the future: Visions and models for the University of Stuttgart". Moderated by Wolfang Niess (SWR), former Rector Dieter Fritsch and the podium guests from economy and science discussed future perspectives of the University. You can have a look at the documentation [German language] of the discussion online.

A festive event in the evening with Swabian specialities and music from the Uni big band concluded this eventful day in the cafeteria of the University.
